Patna’s power distribution network is set for a major upgrade, with PESU planning to shift 774 km of overhead power lines underground under a ₹515-crore project. The work will be completed in two phases by March 2028, covering 13 divisions and major stretches including Bailey Road, Dakbunglow Road, Patliputra and Kankarbagh.
The project aims to reduce power disruptions, improve reliability and modernise the city’s electricity infrastructure. Bailey Road is among the key stretches where overhead poles and wires will be removed and replaced with underground cables.
The first phase covers nine divisions, including Patliputra, Ashiana, Kankarbagh, New Capital and Rajendra Nagar. Around 50 km of cable has already been laid, representing nearly 24.86% of the planned work.
The second phase will cover areas including New Capital, Kankarbagh and Kadamkuan. PESU plans to install underground cables along major roads and residential areas, with the initiative also expected to reduce hazards caused by overhead wiring and improve the city’s overall power supply network.
