Brief By Newsbrief / 11:02 AM on 04 Oct 2026

The newly constructed rail bridge over the Ganga at Mokama is set to begin train operations from October 5, strengthening rail connectivity between north and south Bihar. The bridge, built parallel to the existing Rajendra Setu, has undergone inspections by railway authorities.

Commissioner of Railway Safety Eastern Circle Kolkata, Ganesh Kumar, inspected the new bridge and associated railway infrastructure, including tracks, signalling systems, electrification and other technical arrangements.

The project includes upgraded signalling and interlocking systems designed to improve safety, reliability and efficiency. Three new electronic interlocking systems, arrangements at two level-crossing gates and an automatic signalling system have been completed on the Mokama-Rampur Dumra section.

The automatic signalling system is expected to enable closer train operations while maintaining safety standards. Regular train services will begin after the required safety clearances and operational approvals are completed, improving passenger and freight movement across the Ganga and strengthening Bihar’s railway network further.
