Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) will install 7,500 street lights across the city before the festive season, aiming to improve lighting and safety. Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena has directed officials to install new lights in each of the city’s 75 wards.
Locations are being identified through consultations with ward councillors and surveys. Priority will be given to areas where existing lighting arrangements are inadequate or additional illumination is required. The plan covers major roads, neighbourhood lanes and other public spaces where improved lighting can enhance accessibility and visibility.
Alongside the installation drive, PMC has deployed 26 teams, each comprising three members, to inspect and repair faulty street lights. The teams will address defective switches, wiring and other technical problems, restoring repairable lights and replacing those beyond repair.
Residents can register street-light complaints through PMC’s toll-free helpline and WhatsApp chatbot.
