Brief By Newsbrief / 9:19 AM on 03 Oct 2026

Construction of a ropeway connecting Patna and Sonpur will begin within five months, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced. The project is being developed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model and will connect Patna’s Marine Drive with Hariharnath Temple in Sonpur.

The seven-kilometre ropeway will cross the Ganga, allowing passengers to travel between the two sides while enjoying views of the river. The project is expected to strengthen religious and tourism connectivity between Patna and Sonpur.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari was present during the announcement. The government is planning a similar ropeway in Bhagalpur district, connecting Sultanganj’s Ajgaivinath Dham with Agwani Ganga Ghat.

The announcements were made during an investor meet, where the chief minister highlighted infrastructure development in Bihar. Choudhary said the government was taking measures to strengthen embankments along both banks of the Ganga to reduce flood risks and protect cities from waterlogging and flooding.
