5,088 Litres of Seized Liquor Destroyed in Gopalganj

Gopalganj authorities destroyed approximately 5,088 litres of country-made and Indian-made foreign liquor seized in 82 separate cases at the Balthari check post. The destruction was carried out using a JCB in the presence of magistrates and other administrative officials, following completion of the required legal procedures.

Excise Superintendent Amritesh Kumar Jha said police and the excise department have been conducting continuous operations against illegal liquor transportation across the district. The seized stock, estimated to be worth nearly ₹1 crore, was destroyed on the orders of competent authorities to prevent it from returning to the illegal market.

Gopalganj, a border district with heavy interstate vehicle movement, remains vulnerable to liquor smuggling despite Bihar’s prohibition law. Officials said smugglers frequently adopt new methods to conceal consignments in vehicles and goods. Authorities maintain that vehicle checks, surveillance and intelligence-based operations will continue to curb illegal liquor trafficking and ensure seized stocks are disposed of according to law.
