Patna Police exchanged fire with suspected criminals during an operation targeting an alleged robbery gang near the Son River under Bihta police station limits. Police said around 62 rounds were fired after suspects allegedly opened fire, prompting retaliation. One suspect, Anish Kumar, was shot in the leg and arrested, while another reportedly escaped.
Bihta SHO Amit Kumar suffered a head injury, while sub-inspector Raj Kumar Singh sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was hospitalized. Police recovered weapons from the encounter site, including two pistols, a rifle, a carbine and ammunition.
Officials said the suspects were allegedly involved in multiple criminal cases and were being questioned to establish their roles. Senior officers visited the scene and reviewed the operation. Police said surveillance had been intensified along the Son River and surrounding areas following the encounter, while further investigation is underway to determine the suspects’ links with previous criminal incidents.
