Patna Food Prices Rise Above Government Rates

Prices of food items, including sugar, onions and flour, have risen above government-fixed rates in Patna, putting pressure on budgets ahead of the festive season. According to rates issued by the Bihar Department of Food and Consumer Protection on August 20, sugar was fixed at Rs 51 per kg wholesale, onions at Rs 33 and flour at Rs 30. Retail rates were set at Rs 57, Rs 41 and Rs 34 respectively.

However, market prices remain higher. Wholesale sugar is selling at around Rs 64 per kg, onions at Rs 44 and flour at Rs 40-42. Retail prices have climbed, with sugar at Rs 70-72, onions at Rs 55-60 and flour at Rs 50-52.

Retailers’ Federation general secretary Ramesh Talreja said wholesale prices were already high and could affect retail rates. He urged authorities to monitor supplies and markets to prevent price increases and protect consumers during the festive period.
