Bihar Assembly Speaker Dr Prem Kumar has opposed reports about abolishing the Inspector General (IG) post in the Magadh Range, stressing the region’s historical, administrative and cultural importance.

Speaking to reporters at Gaya’s Circuit House, Kumar said Gaya’s religious and tourism significance, including Vishnupad Temple, the Falgu River, Mangala Gauri Temple and nearby Bodh Gaya, requires strong policing. He noted that the area attracts millions of devotees and tourists annually, making effective security arrangements essential.

Kumar praised Magadh Range IG Vikas Vaibhav for improving policing, maintaining public outreach and taking prompt action on complaints against erring personnel and anti-social elements.

He said local residents also want the IG post retained and assured that he would raise the matter with the state government. Kumar said he would personally meet Chief Minister and request that the post remain in place to strengthen law and order, public safety and administrative efficiency across Magadh.
