Bihar Govt Moves Supreme Court Against Rajballabh Yadav’s Acquittal

The Bihar government has approached the Supreme Court against the Patna High Court’s April 2025 acquittal of former MLA Rajballabh Yadav in a minor’s rape case. The state, through a Special Leave Petition, argued that the survivor’s testimony was credible and sufficient for conviction. It also challenged the rejection of her matriculation certificate for determining age, noting that the defence had not disputed its authenticity during the trial.

The government further questioned the High Court’s reliance on a woman doctor’s medical report that was allegedly not part of the judicial record or formally admitted as evidence. It maintained that the absence of external injuries could not establish that the alleged offence did not occur.

Yadav was convicted in December 2017 and sentenced to life imprisonment in January 2018. The Supreme Court has already conducted an initial hearing, with the next hearing scheduled after two weeks.
