Bihar Sets Record Power Demand at 9,475 MW

Patna: Bihar has achieved a new milestone in electricity consumption by recording its highest-ever peak power demand of 9,475 MW, surpassing the previous record of 9,350 MW set earlier this month. The state successfully met the record demand without any major power outages, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply to households, industries, commercial establishments and essential services.

The Energy Department attributed the achievement to sustained investments in power infrastructure, including stronger transmission lines, additional grid substations, upgraded power transformers and an expanded electricity distribution network. Officials also highlighted the role of real-time monitoring systems and continuous technical supervision in maintaining grid stability during periods of exceptionally high demand.

According to the department, Bihar's peak electricity demand has increased more than fivefold over the past decade, reflecting rapid urbanisation, industrial growth and rising household consumption. Authorities said the state's strengthened power infrastructure is capable of supporting increasing demand while continuing to provide reliable and uninterrupted electricity across Bihar.
