Bihar Police Seek Action Over Posts Targeting Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary

The Bihar Police's Cyber Crime and Security Unit (CCSU) has initiated action against several social media accounts over posts allegedly containing objectionable and misleading content targeting Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. Notices have been issued to X, directing the platform to remove the identified posts, preserve digital evidence and provide account-related information, including IP addresses, login details, mobile numbers, email IDs and location data for investigation.

According to officials, 10 social media accounts have been identified during the initial phase, with reports indicating that the official RJD X handle is among those under scrutiny. Authorities said the investigation aims to determine whether the posts violated laws relating to public order or other cognisable offences.

The move has sparked political controversy, with the Rashtriya Janata Dal accusing the government of attempting to silence opposition voices. The party questioned whether criticism of the government was being treated as a criminal offence and demanded greater protection for free expression.
