Patna: Bihar is set to strengthen road safety by deploying 58 additional interceptor patrol vehicles across its National Highway network. The new fleet will enable traffic police to monitor the state's entire 6,300-kilometre highway network, with patrol vehicles stationed at intervals of about 51 kilometres for continuous surveillance and quicker emergency response.

According to Police Headquarters, the interceptor vehicles are equipped with advanced speed detection cameras, surveillance systems and communication equipment. They will help authorities crack down on speeding, reckless driving and other traffic violations while collecting digital evidence for enforcement and legal action. Besides traffic regulation, the vehicles will also assist in security surveillance and emergency response operations.

The expanded patrol network will be integrated with Bihar's Dial-112 emergency response system, allowing faster coordination between highway patrol units and police control rooms. Officials believe the initiative will significantly reduce accident response time, improve law enforcement on highways and enhance commuter safety across the state.
