Bihar Introduces Uniform PG Fee Structure Under NEP 2020, Standardises Admissions

Patna: The Bihar government has introduced a uniform fee structure and common academic regulations for postgraduate (PG) courses across most state universities under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Approved by Governor-cum-Chancellor Syed Arif Mohammad Khan, the new regulations replace the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) framework and have come into effect immediately.

Under the revised policy, students completing a four-year undergraduate programme will be eligible for one-year PG courses, while those with a three-year undergraduate degree will continue to pursue two-year postgraduate programmes. The fee for one-year PG courses has been fixed at ₹8,100, while two-year programmes will cost ₹15,100, excluding charges for research, practicals and examinations where applicable.

The new rules aim to standardise admissions, fee structures and academic practices across Bihar's universities. However, Bihar Agricultural University, Bihar Animal Sciences University, Nalanda Open University, Aryabhatta Knowledge University and Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University have been exempted from the regulations.
