Raja Raghuvanshi Murder Case: Sonam Raghuvanshi Says She Is Being Falsely Implicated, Supreme Court Defers Hearing to July 14

In the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, the prime accused, Sonam Raghuvanshi, has filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court claiming that she is being falsely implicated in the case. She asserted that she is innocent and argued that mere allegations cannot be treated as proof of guilt. Sonam further stated that there is no possibility of her tampering with evidence, as nothing remains to be recovered from her. She also pointed out that the chargesheet has already been filed and that she has been complying with all bail conditions by staying in Shillong as directed by the trial court.

The development comes after the Meghalaya government challenged the bail granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi by filing a petition in the Supreme Court. The apex court has now deferred the hearing on the matter until July 14. Meanwhile, the court directed the authorities to place the arrest memo and other related documents on record. A Bench comprising Justice Manoj Misra and Justice Shri Chandrashekhar did not pass any interim order staying the bail, meaning Sonam will continue to remain on bail until the next hearing.

During the proceedings, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Meghalaya government, argued that the High Court had wrongly upheld the bail by treating a typing error in the arrest documents as merely a procedural lapse. He maintained that the written grounds of arrest had indeed been provided and that the issue was only a typographical mistake. The Supreme Court observed that it would examine whether this ground was legally sustainable and listed the matter for further hearing on July 14. Sonam had earlier been granted bail by a Shillong trial court, a decision that was later upheld by the High Court.
