Over 200 Bihar Constables Fail Hindi, Promotions Halted

Patna: A departmental promotion examination in Bihar Police has sparked concern after more than 200 constables failed the mandatory Hindi paper, preventing their promotion to the rank of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI). Out of the candidates who appeared, 1,545 successfully qualified and were promoted, while 391 were declared ineligible. Officials said over 100 of those disqualified were facing departmental or disciplinary proceedings, making them ineligible for promotion. Sources revealed that several candidates struggled with basic Hindi grammar, including common errors involving words such as "main" and "mein" and the correct use of singular and plural verb forms. Bihar Police has reiterated that passing the Hindi paper is compulsory for promotion and for availing career progression benefits such as ACP and MACP. However, the department has allowed unsuccessful candidates to reappear in the next departmental examination, giving them another opportunity to qualify for promotion after meeting all eligibility conditions.
