Bihar Vigilance Convictions Rise Sixfold in 25 Years as Anti-Corruption Drive Intensifies

Patna: Bihar’s Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) has recorded a sixfold increase in convictions over the past 25 years, highlighting significant progress in the state’s anti-corruption efforts. Speaking during the bureau’s foundation day programme, Director General Jitendra Kumar attributed the improvement to stronger investigations, closer supervision, better prosecution and continuous monitoring of corruption cases.

According to the bureau, the annual conviction rate has risen from around 1.6 cases in the early years to nearly 10 cases in 2025, while the average time taken to complete investigations has also reduced considerably. Officials said the bureau has strengthened coordination with prosecutors and intensified surveillance, leading to more effective action against corrupt public servants.

The VIB also showcased its achievements in property attachment and disproportionate assets investigations, stating that anti-corruption operations have expanded significantly. Officials reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability and swift legal action against corruption across Bihar through sustained enforcement and institutional reforms.
