Bihar Governor Approves Amendments to Four-Year Undergraduate CBCS Regulations

Bihar Governor and Chancellor have approved significant amendments to the Four-Year Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) undergraduate ordinance and regulations under the Bihar State Universities Act and Patna University Act. The revised provisions primarily modify programme duration and exit options for undergraduate courses in line with ongoing higher education reforms. According to the Governor's Secretariat, the amendments came into effect on July 4, 2026, following formal approval. The notification states that the revised ordinance will apply to most universities across Bihar. However, Patliputra University and Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University have been exempted from the new regulations for the time being. While the Secretariat has not specified the reasons for the exemption, copies of the notification have been forwarded to the concerned authorities for implementation. The move is being viewed as part of Bihar's efforts to align its higher education framework with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP).
