Patna to Introduce Three-Zone Permit System for Auto, E-Rickshaws

The Patna administration has approved a major traffic management plan that will divide the city into three operational zones for auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws under a new colour-coded permit system. The initiative aims to reduce congestion, streamline public transport and regulate vehicle movement through fixed routes. Officials have also proposed designated free zones, while operations on several busy roads may face restrictions to improve traffic flow. The Transport Department is preparing a digital database of all registered autos, e-rickshaws and drivers, along with an online permit management system for better monitoring. Driver associations will be asked to submit vehicle and operator details in a prescribed format. The proposal was finalised during a high-level meeting chaired by Divisional Commissioner Mayank Varwade, with senior officials stating that the new framework is designed to improve passenger convenience, minimise route conflicts and bring greater efficiency to Patna's last-mile transport network.
