AI-Powered Robotics Therapy Transforms Patient Recovery in Bihar

Brief By Newsbrief / 8:52 AM on 19 Jun 2026

Bihar’s healthcare sector has taken a significant technological leap with the introduction of AI-based robotics physiotherapy at IGIMS Patna. Health Minister Nishant Kumar said the advanced rehabilitation service, launched around four months ago, is helping patients suffering from spinal injuries, stroke and paralysis recover more effectively. Installed at a cost of ₹60 lakh, the system uses artificial intelligence to assess a patient’s mobility and physical condition before delivering customised therapy sessions.

According to officials, more than 500 patients have already benefited from the technology, with several showing remarkable improvements in movement and independence. The Virtual Rehabilitation System for Spine Pain and Stroke combines AI, 3D technology and virtual reality to provide precision-based treatment that was previously available only in select metropolitan and international healthcare centres.

The state government believes the initiative will reduce the need for patients to travel outside Bihar for advanced rehabilitation. Plans are also being considered to expand similar AI-powered healthcare facilities to other medical institutions across the state.
