Nawada: A shocking case of fraud has emerged from Bihar’s Nawada district, where a woman was allegedly cheated of ₹17,500 inside a Punjab National Bank branch in Sirdala market. The victim, Chandni Praveen, daughter of a local police chowkidar, had withdrawn ₹40,000 from her account when two unidentified men reportedly targeted her.

According to police, one of the suspects engaged her in conversation and warned that banks sometimes dispense counterfeit or incorrect amounts of cash. Pretending to help, he took the money from her and began recounting it. During the process, he allegedly passed ₹17,500 to an accomplice standing nearby before both men quietly left the bank.

The fraud came to light when Chandni counted the cash again and discovered the shortage. Police have launched an investigation and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the suspects. Authorities have urged customers to avoid accepting assistance from strangers inside banks.
