Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal confirmed the fatalities and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. India has responded strongly to the attack on Setebelo by summoning US Chargé d’Affaires Jason Meeks and formally conveying its concerns. Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs Nagaraj Naidu raised serious questions regarding the safety of Indian citizens aboard commercial vessels operating in conflict-prone waters. The Ministry of External Affairs condemned the strike and revealed that 24 Indians were onboard the tanker, with 21 rescued safely. Describing repeated attacks on merchant ships as deeply alarming, India urged all parties to ensure the security of international shipping routes and prevent further escalation in the region.
