West Champaran Bridge Collapse Isolates 10 Villages, Residents Demand Immediate Action

A major infrastructure failure in Bihar’s West Champaran district has disrupted connectivity after a decades-old bridge partially collapsed into the Dhanauti River. The incident reportedly occurred while a tractor was crossing the structure, causing a section of the bridge to give way. Although no casualties were reported, the collapse has cut off road access for nearly 10 villages, severely affecting transportation, trade, education, and emergency services.

Local residents alleged that the bridge had been in a dilapidated condition for years and claimed repeated complaints to authorities went unaddressed. Following the collapse, villagers gathered at the site and demanded immediate intervention from the administration.

Officials have begun assessing the damage, while temporary arrangements are being considered to restore movement in the affected areas. Residents are also calling for the construction of a new bridge, arguing that timely repairs and proper maintenance could have prevented the incident and the resulting disruption to thousands of people.
