Patna’s Public Transport Set for Major Boost as New 24-Hour CNG Stations Near Launch

Brief By Newsbrief / 3:16 PM on 03 Jun 2026

Patna is set for a major public transport upgrade with GAIL India preparing to launch three new compressed natural gas (CNG) stations in the region. The flagship facility at Phulwarisharif Bus Depot will operate round the clock, ensuring uninterrupted fuel supply for nearly 400 buses and improving operational efficiency across the city’s transport network.

Officials believe the project will help reduce delays caused by fuel shortages while providing greater reliability for daily commuters. The expansion is also expected to lower Patna’s dependence on diesel-powered vehicles, supporting cleaner and more environmentally friendly transportation.

In addition to the Phulwarisharif station, GAIL plans to open new CNG facilities at Naubatpur and Transport Nagar. These stations will serve both public transport operators and private vehicle owners, expanding access to cleaner fuel options.

Authorities say the initiative will strengthen Patna’s fuel distribution infrastructure, promote sustainable urban mobility, and contribute to efforts aimed at reducing air pollution in the state capital.
