The Bihar Water Resources Department has cancelled all leave for engineers and field officials until October 31 as part of an extensive flood preparedness strategy for the 2026 monsoon season. The decision aims to ensure uninterrupted monitoring of embankments, flood-control structures, and vulnerable areas across the state.
According to official directives, officers have been instructed to remain stationed at their assigned locations and respond immediately to any emergency situation. Leave will be permitted only under exceptional circumstances with approval from senior authorities.
The department has also activated a round-the-clock control room and helpline system to handle complaints and coordinate disaster response efforts. Regular review meetings involving engineers, district administrations, and flood management teams will be held throughout the monsoon period.
Officials said thousands of flood-protection works have already been completed, including embankment strengthening and repair projects. The government believes these measures will help minimize flood-related damage, protect lives and property, and ensure a swift response during emergencies across Bihar.
