Bihar Reviews LPG Subsidy Eligibility; Over 20 Lakh Consumers Receive Notices

The Bihar government has launched a large-scale verification drive to review LPG subsidy eligibility for households with annual incomes exceeding ₹10 lakh. As part of the exercise, more than 20 lakh LPG consumers across the state have reportedly received notices asking them to verify their income details and subsidy status within a stipulated period.

Officials said the initiative aims to ensure that government subsidies reach genuinely eligible beneficiaries and prevent misuse of public funds. The review covers consumers identified under income-based criteria and includes scrutiny of beneficiary records, household details, and connection data.

Authorities have also intensified checks on inactive and disputed LPG connections, including those linked to deceased consumers. Consumers who fail to provide the required information may face suspension of subsidy benefits.

The move is expected to affect high-income groups, including government employees, business owners, and professionals. Bihar currently has over 2.5 crore LPG consumers, making the verification drive one of the state's largest welfare audits.
