Amritsar Student Suicide Case: Education Department Tightens Noose on School Management, Gates Locked

The Education Department has intensified its crackdown on the management of DDI School, located on Fatehgarh Churian Road in Amritsar, following the tragic suicide of a 17-year-old female student. A special department team, led by District Education Officer (Secondary) Rajesh Kumar and Deputy District Education Officer Rajesh Khanna, visited the school premises on Monday and Tuesday. However, the team had to return empty-handed as the main gates and rooms of the school were locked, and no representative from the management was present to speak with the officials.
Taking serious note of the incident, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has directed strict legal action against the school management. The Punjab government is treating the case with utmost seriousness and has made it clear that no culprit involved in this matter will be spared. The Education Department has issued a formal letter to the school authorities demanding a written explanation regarding the entire incident, but no response has been received so far. The student's death has sparked deep anger among the victim's family and local residents.
Amjot Kaur, a Class 11 student, allegedly consumed a poisonous substance after being continuously harassed by the school management over outstanding fees. She tragically passed away late Saturday night during treatment at a hospital. The victim's mother, Sarabjit Kaur, alleged that around ₹20,000 was due for admission and tuition fees. She claimed that on May 22, the principal and staff members publicly humiliated and mentally harassed the girl over the pending dues, driving her to take this extreme step.
