Bus Fare Hike Across Bihar: Passengers to Pay More as Private Operators Join Increase

Brief By Newsbrief / 5:14 PM on 31 May 2026

Commuters across Bihar are set to pay more for public transport after the state Transport Department approved a fare increase for government-operated buses. The revised rates, which rise by approximately 10% to 15%, will affect around 1,500 state-run buses across various categories. Under the new structure, fares for ordinary, AC Deluxe and premium bus services have been increased to reflect rising operational costs.

The impact may extend beyond government transport. Private bus operators, represented by the Bihar Motor Transport Federation, have indicated that fares for nearly 40,000 private buses could also be revised. Meanwhile, auto-rickshaw unions are considering a separate fare hike, with proposals suggesting increases of up to 25 percent.

Transport associations are expected to finalize the revised fare structure soon. If implemented, the changes will affect daily commuters, students and long-distance travelers across the state, making transportation significantly more expensive in the coming weeks.
