A wanted criminal carrying a ₹50,000 reward was arrested after being injured in a police encounter in Bihar’s Gopalganj district during a weapons recovery operation. According to police, the accused, identified as Akash Kumar alias Akash, allegedly opened fire while attempting to evade arrest, prompting retaliatory action in which he sustained a leg injury.
The encounter took place following a targeted intelligence-based operation led by local police and the Special Task Force (STF). Authorities said the accused had been absconding for nearly five years and was allegedly involved in several serious criminal cases, including murder, extortion, robbery and violations under the Arms Act.
Police recovered illegal firearms, live cartridges and spent bullet casings from the scene. The injured accused is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital under police custody. Officials said further investigations are underway to identify his criminal network and possible accomplices involved in illegal arms activities.
