The Bihar government has introduced a new initiative allowing landowners to access archived land records online, marking a significant step toward digitising land administration. Under fresh directives issued by the Department of Revenue and Land Reforms, citizens can now apply online for verified copies of unavailable or archived land documents through the state’s Land Records Portal.
Officials said the move is aimed at reducing paperwork, increasing transparency and simplifying access to historical land records, particularly for property owners whose documents remain stored in physical archives. Once an online request is submitted, concerned Circle Officers will retrieve the required records from government archives, digitise them and upload scanned copies for applicants.
The department has instructed district-level officials to implement the system immediately. Authorities believe the initiative will make land-related services faster, more transparent and accessible while supporting Bihar’s broader transition toward fully digital governance and property documentation.
