Brief By Newsbrief / 4:44 PM on 26 May 2026

The Bihar government is preparing an ambitious roadmap to strengthen the livestock, dairy, and fisheries sectors, aiming to significantly improve farmers’ income and create new employment opportunities in rural areas. During a high-level review meeting, Samrat Choudhary instructed officials to focus on increasing production, expanding markets, and ensuring better support for farmers and livestock owners.

The Chief Minister directed authorities to provide high-quality breeds of cows, buffaloes, and goats to farmers through COMFED. He emphasized that improving livestock quality is essential for boosting milk production and strengthening Bihar’s rural economy.

A major focus of the meeting was fisheries development. The government has now set a target to increase annual fish production from 9 lakh metric tonnes to 25 lakh metric tonnes. Officials were also instructed to ensure that fish produced by Bihar’s farmers reaches markets in Nepal and neighboring states, which could open up new income opportunities for fish farmers.

In the dairy sector, the government has announced an ambitious goal to increase daily milk production under Sudha Dairy from 40 lakh liters to 1.25 crore liters per day. Officials believe this expansion can strengthen Bihar’s position as a major dairy-producing state while generating large-scale rural employment.

Samrat Choudhary said that livestock farming, dairy, and fisheries are the backbone of the rural economy and can provide sustainable self-employment opportunities for youth. He instructed departments to ensure timely implementation of welfare schemes and achieve production targets efficiently.

Senior officials, including Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar and other department representatives, attended the meeting. The review is being seen as a significant step toward transforming Bihar into a leading state in dairy and fisheries production.
