Bihar Pushes for IPL Dream as Deputy CM Backs Call for State Franchise

The prospect of Bihar getting its own Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise has sparked fresh excitement after industrialist and Bihar-born businessman Anil Agarwal publicly advocated for a state team. In a social media post, Agarwal argued that Bihar, known for producing talented cricketers and passionate fans, deserves representation in the IPL alongside teams like Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Responding positively, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said the government shares the vision and is working in “mission mode” to strengthen cricket infrastructure in the state. He assured support for initiatives aimed at developing Bihar’s cricket ecosystem.

The momentum comes as an international-standard cricket stadium is being developed in Rajgir under the state’s sports expansion programme. Additionally, Bihar Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh recently held discussions with Rajasthan Royals management regarding hosting IPL matches and building long-term cricket infrastructure in Bihar.
