Bihar Records Sharp Decline in Maternal Mortality Rate, BJP Hails Health Reforms

Senior BJP leader and former Health Minister Mangal Pandey has welcomed the sharp decline in Bihar’s Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR), calling it a major achievement for the state’s healthcare system. Citing the latest Sample Registration System (SRS) report, Pandey said Bihar’s maternal mortality rate has fallen from 104 to 96 deaths per one lakh live births, reflecting significant progress in maternal healthcare.

He credited the improvement to structural reforms introduced under NDA governments, including strengthened maternal welfare schemes, round-the-clock delivery centres at block levels, expansion of ambulance services, and increased institutional deliveries exceeding 90 percent. Pandey also highlighted the role of ANMs, ASHA workers, doctors, and nurses in improving healthcare access.

He said initiatives such as high-risk pregnancy tracking, blood bank expansion, and better neonatal care have reduced complications during childbirth, benefiting mothers across Bihar significantly.
