HC Quashes FIR Against Prashant Kishor in ‘Baat Bihar Ki’ Case

The Patna High Court has quashed an FIR registered against political strategist Prashant Kishor in connection with his ‘Baat Bihar Ki’ campaign, offering major legal relief ahead of Bihar’s politically sensitive period. In a 51-page judgment, the court observed that allegations of forgery, cheating and criminal conspiracy lacked sufficient grounds to proceed under criminal law.

Justice Sandeep Kumar ruled that continuing the case would amount to an abuse of legal process, noting that the complaint failed to establish key ingredients required for the offences alleged. The court also observed that there was no evidence suggesting Kishor forged documents or dishonestly induced anyone for personal gain.

The dispute originated from allegations that campaign materials and concepts linked to another initiative were copied during the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections. However, the court held that conceptual similarities alone do not attract criminal liability, effectively closing the case.
