Bihar Makes Digital Health Records Mandatory in Medical Colleges to Speed Up Treatment

The Bihar government has made digital health records mandatory across all government medical colleges and hospitals, aiming to modernize healthcare services and improve patient treatment. Implemented under the National Medical Commission’s guidelines, the move will digitize patient histories, prescriptions, test reports, and treatment records through the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID system.

Health department officials said the initiative is designed to reduce paperwork, long queues, and delays in treatment by enabling doctors to instantly access a patient’s medical history on a centralized digital platform. The system will benefit patients visiting multiple departments by ensuring seamless coordination and continuity of care.

Authorities have directed medical college administrations to begin immediate implementation, including retrospective digitization where required. Patients will no longer need to carry physical records for repeated consultations. Officials believe the transition will significantly improve hospital efficiency, streamline emergency care, and enhance overall healthcare delivery in Bihar.
