Bihar Pushes Land Survey Deadline: Work to Continue Without Family Partition Papers Until 2027

Brief By Newsbrief / 11:11 AM on 17 May 2026

The Bihar government has announced that its ambitious statewide land survey programme will continue until 2027, even in cases where family partition documents have not been formally completed. The move is aimed at accelerating land record updates, resolving disputes and improving transparency in land ownership across the state.

According to the Revenue and Land Reforms Department, disputed ancestral land will temporarily remain recorded in the names of current holders if family divisions are incomplete. Officials said the survey process would not be delayed due to pending partition-related issues.

To speed up implementation, the government plans to deploy Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based identification systems, digitise land records and extend working hours for revenue staff. Additional officers and survey personnel are also being deployed to complete the exercise within the revised timeline.

Authorities believe the initiative will help reduce land disputes, improve revenue administration and strengthen property documentation in Bihar’s villages and urban areas.
