Bihar’s Raxaul Airport is poised for a major transformation as authorities plan an extensive infrastructure upgrade aimed at enhancing both civilian and strategic aviation capabilities. The airport’s runway will be expanded to nearly 2,360 metres, enabling it to accommodate advanced fighter aircraft, including Rafale jets, along with commercial planes such as Airbus A320 and Boeing 737. Officials said the project is expected to be completed by 2029.
The expansion is also expected to significantly improve regional air connectivity, with direct flight services to Delhi likely to begin after the upgrade. Strategically located near the India-Nepal border, the airport is expected to strengthen emergency response and national security preparedness. Authorities noted that the modernised facility will feature improved navigation systems and upgraded aviation infrastructure, making Raxaul a key transport and defence-linked hub in northern Bihar while boosting trade, tourism and economic activity in the region.
