At least seven people, including two police officers and five civilians, were killed in a powerful bomb blast at a busy market in north-western Pakistan on Tuesday. The attack took place at Tehsil Sarai Nawrang Bazaar near the Bannu district, an area close to the Afghanistan border. Local police officials confirmed that dozens of others were injured, many of them in critical condition.
The explosion caused widespread destruction in the crowded marketplace. Rescue teams quickly reached the spot, deploying ambulances and fire brigade vehicles to evacuate the injured. Visuals from the site showed severely damaged shops, broken structures, and a heavily mangled vehicle near the blast area, highlighting the intensity of the explosion.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Nawrang Saeed Khan confirmed that several injured victims were rushed to hospitals in Bannu for emergency treatment. According to Mohammad Ishaq, the medical superintendent of THQ Hospital, the facility had received 37 patients so far, with several in serious condition requiring urgent care.
This incident marks the second major attack in the same region within just four days. On Saturday, a separate assault involving a car bombing followed by an armed attack on a police post killed 15 police personnel. Following that incident, Pakistan accused militant groups operating from Afghanistan and formally lodged a strong protest with the Taliban government in Kabul.
The Afghan Taliban administration, however, stated on Monday that it had no immediate response to the allegations. Pakistan has repeatedly accused Afghanistan of providing safe havens to militant groups that plan and carry out attacks across the border. The Taliban government has consistently denied these claims, insisting that security issues in Pakistan are internal matters.
The latest explosion further highlights the fragile and deteriorating security situation in Pakistan’s border regions, where attacks on both civilians and security forces have been increasing in recent months, raising serious concerns about regional stability.
