JDU MLA Anant Singh is facing mounting legal and political pressure after a Bihar court declined to grant him immediate relief in a case linked to alleged obscene dancing and open display of weapons during a private function in Semraon village of Gopalganj’s Mirganj area. Singh had approached the court seeking anticipatory bail and a stay on arrest, but the matter was transferred to the court of the Principal District and Sessions Judge, with the next hearing scheduled for May 15.
The controversy stems from videos allegedly recorded during a private upanayan ceremony held on May 2 and 3, which went viral on social media. The footage reportedly showed public weapon displays and objectionable performances, with Singh allegedly present at the event. Police have registered an FIR against nine people, including the MLA, and sent the videos for forensic and ballistic analysis. Singh’s legal team has dismissed the clips as edited and politically motivated.
