Residents of Patna are set to bear another burden of rising living costs after revised prices of PNG (Piped Natural Gas) and CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) came into effect across the city. Under the new rates, domestic PNG prices have increased from ₹49.44 to ₹49.94 per standard cubic metre (SCM), while CNG now costs ₹89.90 per kilogram, up from ₹88.90. Commercial PNG rates have also risen to ₹93.27 per SCM.
The price hike is expected to affect households, transport services, small businesses and industries alike. Increased CNG costs may lead to higher fares for auto-rickshaws, taxis and public transport, placing additional pressure on commuters.
Politically, the issue has triggered criticism from opposition parties, who argue that people are facing inflation instead of relief following the formation of Bihar’s new government. Experts attribute the increase partly to global energy market fluctuations linked to geopolitical tensions and volatile fuel prices.
