Indian Railways Gets Powerful New ‘Accident Warrior’ Crane In Samastipur To Tackle Major Train Disasters Faster

The Samastipur division of Indian Railways has commissioned a powerful 140-tonne Gottwald DHBD diesel hydraulic breakdown crane, significantly boosting its accident relief and disaster management capabilities. Railway officials said the advanced crane will help clear derailments and restore train operations much faster during emergencies across the division.

The commissioning process was completed after extensive technical inspections and successful trial runs. During testing, the crane lifted a 38-tonne ICF coach and rotated heavy loads efficiently, proving its operational readiness. Engineers also carried out detailed checks of hydraulic systems, wire ropes, engines and safety mechanisms before approving deployment.

Officials stated that the crane is equipped with modern safety features, including advanced load indicators and heavy-duty recovery systems designed for rescue operations. The machine is expected to reduce dependence on external assistance and improve maintenance efficiency.

Railway authorities believe the new crane will play a crucial role in minimising disruption during rail accidents and strengthening passenger safety infrastructure in the region.
