Rail Services Hit On Bhagalpur–Jamalpur Route As Sultanganj Safety Work Triggers Delays

Brief By Newsbrief / 10:14 PM on 06 May 2026

Rail services on the crucial Bhagalpur–Jamalpur section of Eastern Railway will face significant disruptions on May 8, 9 and 10 due to ongoing infrastructure work near Sultanganj station. Authorities said the temporary traffic and power blocks are being imposed to facilitate construction of a 12-metre-wide foot overbridge aimed at improving passenger safety and movement between platforms.

Several trains, including the Jamalpur–Bhagalpur DEMU service, have been cancelled, while long-distance trains such as the Howrah–Jaynagar Express, Malda Town–Patna Express and Balurghat–Bhatinda Express will operate with delays and revised schedules. Railway officials stated that steel girders will be installed across active tracks during night hours, making restrictions necessary for operational safety.

The disruption is expected to impact thousands of daily commuters, workers and students travelling through the busy corridor. Passengers have been advised to check updated train schedules before travelling and arrive at stations early to avoid inconvenience.
