The redevelopment of Raxaul Airport in Bihar has officially moved forward after the state government issued a tender for consultancy and engineering services related to the ambitious project. Estimated to cost nearly ₹1,200 crore, the expansion plan aims to transform Raxaul into a key regional and international connectivity hub near the India-Nepal border.
The project includes runway extension, development of modern airside infrastructure, and upgrades capable of handling larger commercial aircraft and fighter jets. Officials said the runway will be expanded to approximately 3,500 meters to support increased aviation operations. The Bihar government has also initiated land acquisition for nearly 139 acres required for the redevelopment, with substantial funds already sanctioned for the process.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary described the initiative as strategically important for improving connectivity and boosting economic activity in the Champaran region. Authorities believe the upgraded airport will significantly enhance trade, tourism, and regional development across northern Bihar.
