The National Lok Adalat scheduled on May 9 in Muzaffarpur is expected to provide major relief to vehicle owners by allowing on-the-spot settlement of pending traffic challans at a special counter set up in Sikandarpur Stadium. District and Sessions Judge Shweta Kumari Singh urged residents to take advantage of the initiative and resolve compoundable cases through mutual settlement.
Under the “One-Time Traffic Challan Settlement Scheme 2026,” fines pending for over 90 days will receive discounts of up to 50 percent. The District Transport Office said offences related to helmet violations, seat belts, lack of insurance, overspeeding, and driving without a license would qualify for reduced penalties.
However, authorities clarified that no concessions would be granted in serious offences such as drunk driving, dangerous driving, mobile phone usage while driving, overloading, and juvenile driving. Officials said the campaign aims to improve road safety and reduce legal burdens on citizens.
