Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary chaired a high-level review meeting following the collapse of a section of the Vikramshila Bridge in Bhagalpur. Officials confirmed that no casualties occurred due to swift action by district and police authorities, who halted traffic immediately after signs of structural failure late on May 3.

A technical team comprising experts from IIT Patna and NIT Patna has been deployed to investigate the cause of the collapse. In a significant move, the government has suspended the Executive Engineer of the National Highway division, citing negligence in maintenance.

To ease public inconvenience, the state is set to launch free steamer services for pedestrians and two-wheelers, along with alternative road routes via Munger. Authorities estimate that repair work for the damaged span will take approximately three months. The government has also ordered safety audits of major bridges across the state to prevent similar incidents.
