The Patna High Court has pulled up the Bihar government and the Bihar Technical Service Commission (BTSC) for delays in completing the recruitment process for 2,473 pharmacist posts. Hearing a contempt petition filed by Diploma Pharmacist Organisation student union president Arvind Kumar, Justice Dr. Anshuman expressed displeasure over non-compliance with earlier directives.
The court has now ordered authorities to complete the selection process and ensure appointments across all state health institutions within four weeks. It warned that failure to meet the deadline would require the Health Department’s senior officials, including the Principal Secretary and Director-in-Chief, to appear in person.
The court emphasized that timely recruitment is essential to address the acute shortage of pharmacists in hospitals, which affects patient care and medicine distribution. Despite document verification being completed two months ago, final results are yet to be declared, prompting renewed judicial intervention.
