Bihar Cabinet Approves 50% Settlement Scheme for Pending Traffic E-Challans

Brief By Newsbrief / 5:50 PM on 30 Apr 2026

The Bihar government has approved a one-time settlement scheme allowing vehicle owners to clear pending e-challans by paying just 50 percent of the total fine. The decision, taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, aims to provide relief to motorists burdened with accumulated penalties.

The scheme covers violations such as not wearing helmets or seatbelts, driving without insurance, and other traffic rule breaches. Cases pending for over 90 days will be settled through National Lok Adalats. The initiative will remain in force throughout the 2026–27 financial year.

Officials said the move will not only ease financial stress for citizens but also help the transport department recover dues and reduce backlog. It is also expected to remove hurdles in vehicle-related services like permit renewals, fitness certificates, and NOCs, improving administrative efficiency.
