Bihar Opens State-Run Buses for Private Bookings to Boost Affordable Event Travel

The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) has introduced a new policy allowing private individuals to book government-run buses for weddings, family functions, pilgrimages, and other events. The initiative aims to provide an affordable alternative to private transport services while also improving the utilisation of the state’s existing bus fleet.

Under the new system, fixed fares have been set for journeys up to 240 kilometres, with different pricing based on bus capacity. Additional charges will apply for longer distances. Officials say the pricing structure is competitive and designed to benefit middle-income households seeking cost-effective group travel options.

The move marks a shift from earlier practices where buses were largely reserved for official duties and educational trips. Authorities believe the scheme will help generate additional revenue for BSRTC while expanding access to reliable transportation, particularly in smaller towns and districts where private options are often limited or expensive.
