A special MP-MLA court has acquitted former Begusarai MP Surajbhan Singh in connection with a 1996 murder case, citing lack of evidence and hostile witnesses. The verdict, delivered by a special judge, brings closure to a case that had remained pending for nearly three decades.
The case related to the killing of Ranjit, a resident of Bihat village in Begusarai district, who was allegedly shot dead in July 1996. While Singh’s name was not included in the initial FIR filed by the victim’s family, it was later added during the course of the investigation.
During the trial, the prosecution presented multiple witnesses, but none supported the case in court. In the absence of corroborative evidence, the court ruled that the charges could not be sustained. Singh’s counsel argued that there was no substantive proof linking him to the crime.
