“₹12,000 Cr Shock!” Tejashwi Yadav Slams Bihar Govt Over ‘Fiscal Mismanagement’

Brief By Newsbrief / 7:10 PM on 22 Apr 2026

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has launched a sharp attack on the Bihar government, accusing it of serious fiscal mismanagement and unsustainable financial practices. He alleged that excessive and unplanned expenditure has weakened the state’s economic stability, forcing the government to propose borrowing ₹12,000 crore to manage its finances.

Tejashwi claimed that rising debt could further strain Bihar’s economy and lead to delays in welfare payments, including pensions, scholarships, and salaries. He also raised concerns about transparency and accountability in financial decisions.

Government officials, however, defended the move, stating that the borrowing is necessary to stabilise the state’s finances and ensure continuity of essential schemes. They argued that the funds would help address budgetary pressures and support development initiatives.

The issue has intensified political debate, with both sides presenting contrasting views on Bihar’s financial health and governance approach.
