Heatwave Forces School Timing Cuts Across Bihar, Five More Districts Act

Brief By Newsbrief / 7:04 PM on 22 Apr 2026

Amid a worsening heatwave, five more districts in Bihar—Saran, Arwal, Bhojpur, Gaya and Sheikhpura—have revised school schedules, enforcing early closures and restricting class hours for younger students. Authorities said the decision was taken to safeguard children from extreme temperatures, dehydration and heatstroke risks as mercury levels continue to rise across the state.

In several districts, primary classes are being dismissed before noon, while upper classes are also operating under limited hours. The India Meteorological Department has issued heatwave alerts for multiple regions, warning that high temperatures are likely to persist in the coming days.

Officials stated that both government and private schools must strictly follow the new guidelines to ensure student safety. District administrations are closely monitoring the situation and have indicated that additional restrictions may be introduced if conditions worsen further.
